Is your BRA making you ill?

  • Estimated that up to 80% of women wear a bra that doesn't fit them properly
  • An ill-fitting bra can trigger seemingly unrelated conditions because it can irritate skin and affect posture - which in turn affects internal organs
  • Shirley Brailey, 62, suffered a hiatus hernia and heartburn because she wore a poorly-fitted, underwired bra
  • A well-fitted bra can prevent breast-reduction surgery, say doctors
Health experts are warning about the the serious health problems that can be triggered by wearing an ill-fitting bra.

They say that seemingly unrelated conditions including skin rashes, tendonitis and even indigestion can be caused by poorly fitting undergarments, especially if you have large breasts.

It is thought that four in five women wear an ill-fitting bra because they tend to underestimate the width of their back, while overestimating their cup size.

Ill-fitting bras can trigger a wide range of conditions - from indigestion to tendonitis - because the underwear affects posture and th positioning of internal organs

Ill-fitting bras can trigger a wide range of conditions - from indigestion to tendonitis - because the underwear affects posture and the positioning of internal organs.

Lorna Mills, a chiropractor practising in Oldham, said: ‘Women come into my clinic on a regular basis showing rounded shoulders, curves in the back, indigestion due to the diaphragm and lungs being restricted, marks from straps and underwires, dents in the shoulders: all the signs of an ill-fitting bra.'

She says that one of the biggest problems is that women are regularly fitted with bras that are far too big in the cup. More: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2336795/Is-BRA-making-ill-Headaches-IBS-rashes-hernia-tendonitis-linked-badly-fitting-underwear.html

Are high heels really worth it?

Are high heels really worth it? Most women are in pain in just over an hour and 90% have suffered problems from ill-fitting shoes

  • Study found that half of women put up with pain of high heels to look good
  • Podiatrists say nearly all foot conditions are caused by poorly fitting shoes
  • Long-term damage includes, bunions, arthritis, stress fractures and trapped nerves that could require surgery and steroid injections
Women's 'no pain no gain' attitude to shoes is putting them at risk of permanent foot injury, medical experts have warned.

A study has shown that stylish high heeled shoes cause women pain after just an hour and six minutes and that just under half admit to putting up with the rubbing or pinching to look good.

The research also discovered a staggering nine in ten women have experienced problems with their feet and 20 per cent say they are 'embarrassed' by them after years of forcing them into high heels.

Medical experts have said that wearing high heels forces a woman's foot into an unnatural shape which can cause intense pain and long-term, irreparable damage such as arthritis

The poll, carried out by the College of Podiatry, found that a third of women admitted to having worn heels they knew did not fit, simply because they 'looked nice' and could not find a pair in their size.

But consultant podiatrist Mike O'Neill, from the College of Podiatry, warned that squeezing feet into smaller shoes can cause long-term damage including arthritis, stress fractures, and trapped nerves, which may even require surgery or steroid injections.
