How three cups of coffee a day can extend your life

Studies find antioxidant properties helps to improve liver function
  • Two major studies found three cups a day can reduce the risk of an early death
  • Found it reduced risks of liver disease and digestive and circulatory problems
  • Research shows antioxidant plant compound is responsible rather than caffeine
  • Drink improves liver function, reduces inflammation and boosts immune system

Drinking three cups of coffee a day could extend your life, research suggests.

Two major studies, one led by British researchers and one in the US, have independently found consuming up to three cups a day reduces the risk of an early death.

The papers, both published last night in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found links between coffee and reduced risks of liver disease, circulatory problems and diseases linked to the digestive tract.

The scientists believe the antioxidant plant compounds in coffee are responsible for the benefits, rather than caffeine. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-4683366/How-three-cups-coffee-day-extend-life.html

Drinking FIVE cups of coffee a day reduces your risk of developing liver cancer by up to 50%

  • Drinking one cup of coffee a day lowers your liver cancer risk by 20%
  • Two coffee cups reduces your risk of developing the disease by 35%
  • Decaffeinated options have a protective effect but to a lesser extent
  • Researchers say more research is needed to determine its health effects
Researchers from Southampton and Edinburgh universities examined data from 26 studies involving more than 2.25 million participants.

Compared with people who drank no coffee, those who drank one cup had a 20 per cent lower risk of developing the most common form of primary liver cancer, known as hepatocellular carcinoma, they found.

Results, published in the journal BMJ Open, also found that those who drank two cups had a 35 per cent reduced risk of suffering the disease, while drinking five cups cut their risk in half. How coffee can save your sight: Chemical in the drink prevents degeneration of the retina due to glaucoma, ageing or diabetes

  • Researchers made discovery when looking at coffee's antioxidant effects
  • Coffee contains 7-9 per cent chlorogenic acid which is strong antioxidant

A daily cup of coffee can save your eyesight, scientists claim.

A chemical found in the drink prevents deteriorating eyesight and possible blindness from retinal degeneration due to glaucoma, ageing and diabetes. Researchers at Cornell University in New York were looking at coffee's antioxidant effects when they made the discovery. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2622866/How-coffee-save-sight-Chemical-drink-prevents-degeneration-retina-glaucoma-ageing-diabetes.html
