Just because it's diet doesn't mean it won't give you diabetes

  • Two or more diet drinks a day led to diabetes in older women, study shows
  • Were 50 per cent more likely to suffer from cardiovascular-related diseases
  • Regular female drinkers also 30 per cent more likely to have heart attacks

Women who drink two diet drinks a day could be 30 per cent more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke later in life, research has shown. A study of 60,000 women in their 50s and 60s found a strong link between consuming large amounts of apparently healthy soft drinks and heart disease. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2592739/Just-diet-doesnt-mean-wont-diabetes-Even-just-two-lower-calorie-soft-drinks-day-cause-problems-women-later-life.html

Eating organic foods does NOTHING to reduce the cancer risk among women, says new study

  • Organic food is the choice of many wanting to avoid pesticides
  • Oxford University study says the food types have no impact on cancer
  • Researchers also found no increased risk of cancers linked to pesticides
  • Slight link in reduction of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and organic food - scientists say this could be due to other factors
  • Those who only ate organic actually had an increased risk of breast cancer
Eating organic food does nothing to cut a woman's risk of cancer, a new study has found. Women who always ate organic fruit and vegetables over a period of nine years were no less likely to develop one of of 16 types of cancer than those who never ate that type of foods. In fact, scientists actually found there was a small increased risk of breast cancer in those who only ate organic, according to Oxford University's Million Women study.

Organic foods have been found to not help in the fight against cancer

Listen to your baby’s heartbeat - on your SMARTPHONE

  • New app uses a fetal heart-rate monitor to keep track of unborn child
  • Expectant mothers record the baby's heartbeat and play it back
  • Able to take measurements of baby's progress, such as weight
  • Can also track mood patterns of the mother-to-be
  • Certain patterns in mood, such as emerging depression, prompt alerts
A new smartphone app allows mothers to listen to the heartbeat of their unborn child and keep track of their baby's progress in the womb. The Bellabeat Connected System includes a fetal heart-rate monitor and lets expectant mothers tune in to their baby's heartbeat and record the sounds. It also tracks important data about the progress of the baby, including heartbeats per minute, the number of times the baby kicks and the weight of the growing foetus.

The app focuses on tracking a baby's progress in the womb, using a heart monitor attachment to make measure heartbeats-per-minute and the amount the baby is kicking, much like an ultrasound

Why are we fatter and sicker than ever? The graphs that explain how sugar, fruit juice and margarine are to blame

  • The graphs were gathered by Kris Gunnars, a nutrition researcher
  • He says the obesity epidemic correlates with the time we were told to adopt a low fat diet and eat plenty of carbohydrates
  • Graphs show that our sugar consumption has rocketed yet consumption of eggs has fallen - and we have swapped butter for margarine
  • Calorie intake has also gone up by around 400 calories a day
  • Mr Gunnars says our diets filled with processed food are making us ill
We have more access to food than ever - yet we are also fatter and sicker than we have ever been. How can this be in the 21st Century?

The answer, it is claimed, lies in the series of graphs below, which paint a stark picture of our food and drink consumption over the past few decades.

Compiled by Kris Gunnars, a nutrition researcher, medical student and personal trainer, they appear to show a startling correlation between a change in the Western diet in line with the soaring obesity epidemic.

'The modern diet is the main reason why people all over the world are fatter and sicker than ever before,' says nutrition researcher Kris Gunnars
