Washing your hands with cool water is just as effective in killing germs as using hot water...

...and antibacterial soap is no better than a normal cleanser, reveals study

  • Water temperature does not affect how much bacteria is washed off hands
  • Antibacterial soap was found to be no more effective than normal soap
  • People preparing food should scrub their hands for at least ten seconds  


Scientists have poured cold water on the theory that we need to wash our hands with hot water to kill germs.

A new study has discovered that cool water removes the same amount of harmful bacteria. 
Antibacterial soap was no better than normal soap, researchers also found.
